The Industrial Training Institute affectionately known as 'ITI', was first established in Kuala Lumpur in 1962 to cater for the increasing need of a skilled workforce , especially in the mining sector. As the industries in Malaysia developed into more and more industrial sectors, the demand for skilled labour increased. Today, almost every state has its own ITI.
Labuan Industrial Training Institute established since 1984. This institute was constructed on 32 acre area nearby Labuan Sport Complex and opposite of Labuan Nucleus Hospital. The distance from Labuan Town only 6 kilometres.
Building works on the ITI Labuan started in 1982 and was completed in 1984. In June 1984, 50 students, registered for the first courses. Students intake continued to increase and with the new expansion plans the Institute hope to cater for 600 students starting June 2000. The Institute was officially opened on October 26th , 1985 by the then Minister of Labour, Dato' Mak Hong Kam.When the Institute started its operation in 1984, 8 courses were offered. Now the Institute offers 600 places in 10 courses. |
